14 Burning Questions For WWE Royal Rumble 2016

14 Burning Questions For WWE Royal Rumble 2016

 WWE.com

The Royal Rumble typically is a high point for many wrestling fans. It’s a unique event that often tells several interesting stories, while 30 men compete in a battle royal-style match. If done well, it can kick off the Road to WrestleMania on a high note.
Regardless of what happens Sunday night, WWE will make history when the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is defended in the Royal Rumble match for the first time. The Rumble typically crowns the #1 contender for the world title at Mania. In that regard, the Rumble is a critical part of the success of WWE’s biggest event of the year.
But for the first time since that custom was put in place in 1993, the winner of the Rumble will emerge world champ. Current title-holder Roman Reigns will enter #1 in the latest effort from Vince and Stephanie McMahon to “stack the deck” against him. While the Rumble will take on a different mission this year, it’s still no less important: the Rumble serves to continue the rehabilitation of Reigns as a top-level star for the company.
Roman’s crowd support took a huge hit during the past year, and many fans are just starting to come back to him and start showing him more universal support. The stacked Rumble is one way to help build sympathy and support for him. Whether that works remains to be seen.
With four other title matches on the card, let’s take a look the big questions facing WWE that need some answering before the Royal Rumble goes off the air Sunday.

Last Night’s WWE Smackdown (Jan 21)

5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Smackdown (Jan 21)

The hype surrounding Thursday Night Smackdown’s shift to the USA Network has already died down, but that doesn’t mean the show isn’t worthwhile. Overall, the latest episode felt like a tighter, more-focused episode of Monday Night Raw, and didn’t drag on like the flagship program sometimes tends to.
There were 5 matches in total, and it won’t surprise most fans to learn that quality was very much a mixed bag on the show. Smackdown was WWE’s last chance to add some spice before the Royal Rumble, something which was certainly achieved with the ending of the broadcast. However, there were some familiar teething problems which long time fans could easily spot, such as effectively foreshadowing pay-per-view results.
Naturally, the main event slot was afforded to Roman Reigns, and the idea of him struggling to overcome the odds once more. That’s been a theme of WWE programming since it was announced that Reigns was defending the WWE World Heavyweight Title during the Royal Rumble match itself.
This article analyses Thursday Night Smackdown, looking at reasons that made it an enjoyable show but also taking aim at portions which felt lifeless and dull. What follows are 5 distinct ‘ups’, but also 3 unfortunate ‘downs’ from the event.

10 Superstars Mr. McMahon hated

Let’s be generous and say that Mr. McMahon has a … complicated relationship with some of his Superstars. Or, we can be honest and say he’s gone so far as to entrap, entomb, ensnare, entangle and otherwise cut the legs out from under those who have dared to defy him. Of course, sometimes they even got one over on him in return. Hey, nobody said crossing the boss was easy, but here are 10 Superstars who did it anyway, and found themselves in The Chairman’s doghouse.

NEW ORLEANS — At the end of last week’s Raw, Mr. McMahon set the table. Now, he’s begun inviting guests to the meal. With Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line in the Royal Rumble Match, the WWE roster was assembled for a call to action. The Chairman himself served as hype man to rile them into a frenzy against The Big Dog — most notably, he floated Brock Lesnar as a potential Rumble Match entrant to usurp The Big Dog as champion. And as a preamble to his one-versus-all test later this month, Reigns was placed into a literal “One vs. All Match” for later in the night, while his “brother” Dean Ambrose was teed up for Sheamus in a one-on-one match.

John Cena kicked off SmackDown at its new home, in a new year, in a very patriotic mood. Talk of USA Network transitioned to discussion of the United States Championship, eventually prompting the Cenation leader to give a rousing introduction to the current titleholder, Alberto Del Rio.

Despite being called out in front of the WWE Universe, The Essence of Excellence was not about to put his coveted championship on the line. However, he was willing to fight anyone right there and then … except the 15-time World Champion. In response, Cena summoned the high-flying Kalisto to battle the arrogant Del Rio.
